TopTubeSites
1. You are crazy about VIRAL video so you're looking for big viewer numbers. The sites below are big entertainment destinations with many community features and loads of video distribution options.
YouTube
The winner by a mile! Upload, watch, post, email, comment, subscribe, be subscribed, etc. But no downloading options.
MySpace Videos
Plenty of community features, and the sharing options might be even greater.
Yahoo Video
Popular. Pretty much the same options as YouTube.
MetaCafe
Works slowly and is very awkward to use. We don't understand why it's so popular.
Grouper
Lots of functions: watch and download video to PCs, iPod and PSP, post, blog, etc. But it's difficult to navigate.
DailyMotion
Very much like YouTube. Nice interface, popular, lots of functions.
2. You want to make NEWS. If you're a budding video journalist, you can submit footage to CNN or ABC. Who knows? Your video could be on TV around the world tonight! But to make the cut, your video must cover a significant and important event or confirm a social trend. Be warned: you will have to fill in long forms, and you'll never be sure if it reaches the right audience. Persistence is required!
CNN
Uses blip.tv software to enable people around the world to send CNN newsworthy footage.
ABC
Requirements regarding file size and format seem very restrictive.
3. You want to share HOME VIDEOS with family and friends. You're looking for ease of registration and navigation as well as options for posting and downloading. These sites have already gained reputation for providing flexible, easy-to-use services.
Blip.tv
Very easy-to-use, with an impressive range of distribution and community options: download, post, email, communicate, etc. Uploaded video is available for sharing immediately.
Vimeo
Simple uploads, tagging, commenting and voting, but it's light on community features. Weekly storage of 30Mb is probably too limiting for most people.
Veoh
Unlimited distribution capacity for full-screen, TV-grade video content available to anyone with a broadband connection, including high-definition videos.
VideoEgg
Not a site to watch and download video. Lacks community features. Provides simple sharing with other mainstream sites. Captures video directly from webcam, camcorder and other mobile devices.
4. You want to create and EDIT SHARED video online. You'd like a combination of functional service and fun. Such sites are pretty scarce and Jumpcut seems to compete with itself. It offers to edit and remix your clips with those from other users, lay down music and even apply special effects.
Jumpcut
Looks more like an application. Splice your video, reorder shots, apply effects, and email or embed in a webpage.
Motionbox
Lets you highlight specific parts of your videos and share just this 'good stuff'.
5. You would like to share and MONETIZE your video content. Some video sharing sites highlight different revenue-sharing models that may appeal to you as a content owner and producer.
Revver
You get paid 20% of whatever the advertiser pays. If visitors click on the Revver link at the end of your video, you split the proceeds 50/50.
Google
Pushing videos to other sites and blogs is a bit complicated, and verification takes days. But you do get to set the price you want for your uploaded videos.
Brightcove
A quickly developing video marketplace to launch a custom Internet TV channel, distribute video and get revenue from Brightcom ad network and video sales/renta.
